Our Year in Review (2025)
January 2026
Dear Friends,
The McFarlane family wants to thank you for another year of incredible support. Your continued generosity to the McFarlane Family Foundation has allowed us to stay focused on what matters most: enabling others to achieve by empowering individuals and strengthening communities. This past year, your contributions created meaningful impact through our partnerships in health, education, amateur sport, and the arts. Here is the impact we made together.
From Grassroots to World Stage
We are thrilled that Marielle Thompson—a skier we supported in 2013 and 2014—will carry Canada's flag at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics! From our early support to her 2014 Sochi gold medal to becoming one of our nation’s flag-bearers, Marielle's journey exemplifies how grassroots funding creates leaders on the world stage.
HEALTH
Collingwood General & Marine Hospital Foundation
Donations to the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital Foundation (CGMHF) help bring outstanding care to the communities of South Georgian Bay. In 2025, we directed our donation to the hospital’s long-time fundraising campaign for its first-ever Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine, which opened in October 2025. The CGMHF is enabling faster diagnoses and more timely treatment which marks a significant step forward for healthcare in our community.
Youth Mental Health: Our Family’s Personal Commitment
Members of the McFarlane family continue to support youth mental health through initiatives closest to their hearts, including the Jack Ride – Canada’s Ride for Youth Mental Health through Jack.org.
EDUCATION
Dyslexia Canada
Dyslexia Canada is the only registered national charity committed to ensuring that every child in Canada with dyslexia gets a fair and equitable education. During our first year of partnership, we focused our giving on their Right to Read campaign and will continue to do so for the upcoming year. Every gift enables Canadian children with dyslexia access to meaningful and equitable education.
Events for Life Centre Inc.
The McFarlane Family Foundation has been a proud supporter of Events for Life Centre Inc. since their beginnings in 2013. Our donations support their mission, which is to enrich the lives of individuals with special needs by providing educational, social, and recreational, day programs geared towards lifelong learning. They support individuals with special needs so they may live, learn, and work in an integrated, inclusive community.
AMATEUR SPORT
Alpine Canada
In 2025, we proudly supported our female alpine skiers, Valerie Grenier, Britt Richardson, and Cassidy Gray on their journey to the World Cup podium. This year, they are heading to the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics to compete for Canada on the world stage! We are thrilled to cheer them on as they chase their Olympic dreams—Go, Canada, Go!
Youth Sport: Our Family’s Personal Commitment
Sport has always been central to the McFarlane family, and we see its power reflected in our own children. This past summer, Gord’s son Liam earned a bronze medal in relay team mountain biking at the Canada Summer Games held in St. John’s Newfoundland and was also named the 2025 U17 Mountain Bike XCO Canadian National Champion. Witnessing Liam’s growth, alongside that of our other children, reinforces our belief in the value of sport as a pathway for youth development. It also deepens our appreciation for the dedication and potential of the young athletes supported by the McFarlane Family Foundation.
THE ARTS
Ballet Jörgen Canada
Ballet Jörgen Canada makes high-quality professional dance more accessible to underserved, underrepresented, and remote communities across Canada. We directed our 2025 funds to launch their new production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and were thrilled to attend their world premiere on January 8, 2026. With incredible support like yours, Ballet Jörgen continues making ballet a meaningful part of people’s lives through accessible and authentic Canadian storytelling.
THANK YOU FOR BELIEVING
Since 2008, your support has helped us invest over $1 million where it matters most: charitable causes in health, education, amateur sport, and the arts. But numbers only tell part of the story. The real impact is in the lives changed, the barriers broken, and the futures made brighter. Your generosity turns impossibilities into possibilities, and together, we’re proving that meaningful change starts with people who care.
The McFarlane family is deeply thankful for your continued support and belief in enabling others to achieve. We wish you a bright and hopeful 2026 and can't wait to see what we accomplish together in the coming year.
Warmest regards,
The McFarlane Family Foundation
