Foundation Pillars

Foundation Pillars

The McFarlane Family Foundation is dedicated to enabling others to achieve. It supports and recognizes achievement by individuals and institutions that contribute significantly to improving our communities. Each of the following areas mattered greatly to Sanford, and therefore form the pillars of the McFarlane Family Foundation:

HEALTH
Jack.org is Canada’s only charity that trains and empowers young people to revolutionize mental health by providing education, leadership and advocacy training, and mentorship to young people aged 15-24. With support from Jack.org, young leaders identify and dismantle barriers to positive mental health by educating their peers, normalizing difficult conversations, encouraging help-seeking, and advocating for safer, more supportive communities.
Jack.org is working towards a Canada where all young people understand how to take care of their own mental health and look out for each other. A Canada without shame, and where all young people that need support get the help they deserve. In 2018-2019, Jack.org youth leaders from coast to coast to coast will lead over 200 Jack Chapters, deliver 400 educational Jack Talks, and host 30 skill-building Jack Summits. Over the past five years, 2,500 Jack.org youth leaders have started over 400,000 peer-led mental health conversations—and we’re only just getting started.

Find what moves you

    Find what moves you

Everyone who’s spent time on the road knows the power of motivation. It’s what drives you to get on the bike, to keep pushing on the incline, to find your second wind, then your third, then your fourth. And when you find what motivates you, it changes you forever.

For the McFarlane family, longtime Jack Riders and volunteers, motivation comes from one another. It’s what keeps their youth advocacy work at the McFarlane Foundation going, it’s what keeps them coming back to Jack Ride year after year. They know that changing our mental health system is synonymous with looking out for the people we love. And they know that the way to make real change is by doing it together.

A future where all young people have the resources they need to reach their potential is possible. We come together at Jack Ride to remind ourselves of what motivates us to change the country: love for one another. Link to Article
